Below is the piece she currently has on show:• ‘African Woman’ 2021 – Watercolour on paperThis piece represents the African woman, it shows how she balances holding her baby and the wooden stick to make food for her family. She’s nurturing, strong, caring and protective. The piece was inspired by my grandmother, when she would make ‘Fufu’, a dish she made from my childhood.

‘Butterfly’ 2021 – Mixed media on paper‘Butterfly’ was inspired by the gender based violence that is currently taking place in Trinidad and Tobago. Every day, the artist tries to brainstorm concepts using multi-media materials, but she read about two young women that were raped and killed by men, and then she started this piece. The drawing is about a butterfly protecting women from the hands of men (can be a husband, boyfriend, friend, father, brother, uncle and stranger etc.). It was designed to create emphasis on the man’s hand, and delicate details can be seen in the woman’s hair and butterfly, which is also a representation of a woman who is the victim of violence and crime.
